It has been over a year since Inglewood, California's very own Cali Swag District dominated airwaves with their breakout single, "Teach Me How To Dougie."
Now, fans will finally be able to get their hands on the group's long waited debut, Kickback, which drops next week.
Despite the big moment, this is a bittersweet time for members, Smoove Da General, Yung, and JayAre. Their album will drop almost two months after the death of fourth member, M-Bone, who was was the victim of a drive by shooting in their hometown in mid-May.
"[M-Bone] would want us to stay strong," member JayAre tells BallerStatus.com. "We keep him in our head and in our hearts. He would want us to keep on going and making music."
"It feels good" for the album to be coming out, he continued, explaining that M-Bone is very much present on the release although he's no longer with them.
"80% of the album was already done" before they were signed their deal, and they added more tracks to complete the album while touring last year.
According to JayAre, the "collaborative process" between the foursome was "smooth," beginning with the beat selection and from there everything would just "flow."
Overall, he says fans will not be disappointed with Kickback, because "no two songs are the same. The album is fist pumping music."
Kickback drops July 12.
The group says the album is released in memory of their fallen friend, M-Bone, who was tragically gunned down on May 15. His murder remains unsolved.
