For the second weekend in a row, the hammer wielding god of thunder, "Thor," smashed the box office, beating out two new releases -- the comedy "Bridesmaids", and the action horror "Priest".
The 3D Paramount superhero film, starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, earned $34.5 million in its second weekend, takings its domestic haul to $199.2 million.
The biggest debut this weekend came from Universal's "Bridesmaids," the raunchy comedy starring Kristen Wiig as a down-on-her-luck maid of honor. It earned more than expectations, taking in $24.4 million over its three-day start.
Universal says the film's success is credited to the movie's good reviews and word of mouth.
In its third weekend, "Fast Five" fell one spot to #3 with $19.5 million, taking its three-week haul to $168.7.
Sony's 3D vampire-hunting graphic novel adaptation, "Priest", opened at #4 with $14.5 million, while Fox's animated "Rio" landed at fifth place with $8 million in its fifth weekend in theaters.
