Prosecutors in charge of the February Waka Flocka shooting in North Carolina have decided to drop the charges against six men accused of shooting at and attempting to rob the Georgia rapper's tour bus.
The Charlotte Observer says the charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
"We didn't have enough evidence to prosecute any of them," District Attorney Andrew Murray told the paper. "The defendants are still in custody. That's why we need to dismiss the charges now. I'm not thrilled about having to dismiss these charges. Some of these guys have felony records."
Back in February, one man suffered a gunshot wound in a shooting that took place in the parking lot where Waka and his entourage were hanging out, while their tour bus was getting upgrades.
Earlier reports said that two vehicles pulled into the lot and opened fire on the rapper and his team, hitting the bus at least four times. Waka's publicist said the shooting started after several men tried to rob Waka Flocka Flame of his jewelry.
Waka's security guards returned fire, injuring one of the assailants.
However, prosecutors have little to go on, they said, because the lack of cooperation from Waka and/or other witnesses. They also said there was no evidence of an attempted robbery.
Prosecutors dropped charges -- including attempted armed robbery, conspiracy and discharging a weapon into occupied property against six men, whom police believed were involved in the shootout at the Car Stereo Warehouse on Independence Boulevard.
"There has been no identification by any alleged victim or witness of any of the six defendants as being present and/or firing a weapon during the incident," the court papers filed Monday (May 9) said.
The six men arrested said, according to court docs, that they didn't have any intention of robbing Waka, but rather went to the stereo store to "chill" and "hang out" with the rap star.
