After years of battling with drug addiction, singer Whitney Houston has voluntary checked into rehab for drug and alcohol treatment, said reports.
A rep for Houston confirmed with the Associated Press Monday (May 9) that the 47-year-old enrolled in an out-patient program last month, and added that it's a voluntary measure as part of Houston's "long-standing" recovery process.
Houston is getting ready to film the sequel to 1995's blockbuster, Waiting to Exhale, according to TMZ, which is why she is seeking treatment. A source told the website that "She's cleansing herself to get ready for a new movie."
Last weekend, she performed with Prince and Chaka Khan at a concert in Los Angeles.
Houston's struggles to stay sober have been going on for years. She released a comeback album in 2009, but her 2010 tour was troubled, as she canceled some dates due to illness and received negative reviews from fans who were disappointed in the quality of her voice and performance.
