Long-running menswear company, Dockers, has recently enlisted legendary rapper/DJ Biz Markie to help the brand update its image.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the 47-year-old legend recently provided the music by DJing a private celebration to showcase the Dockers' Fall 2011 collection, held at Tribeca's Hudson & Broad showroom in New York City.
In an attempt to explain why he chose to endorse Dockers, he said: "Well, somebody contacted me and, you know, I like Dockers. I wear Dockers. They're comfortable. I'm a comfortable man ... Dockers is a mature jean. You can wear it anywhere. Plus, I just love Dockers."
While it seems like an odd fit, Dockers said the company called on Biz to "update its image with more modern fits and styles."
"Biz Markie is a classic," said a rep for Dockers. "He's a good representation of an Alpha male who embraces passion, a certain attitude and individualism. He fits well with the new Dockers Alpha khaki that's launching for Fall 2011 -- classic, versatile and the first of its kind."
Biz Markie rose to fame in the 1980s for his beat-boxing and rapping skills, helping put Marley Marl's Cold Chillin' Records on the map. His biggest mainstream hit was the late 1980s smash, "Just A Friend," which VH1 named one of the "100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs Of All-Time" in 2008.
In recent years, he's re-established himself as a party DJ, and has even lent his beat-boxing skills to popular children's TV show "Yo Gabba Gabba!"
