 50 Cent is known for making outrageous claims and comments on Twitter.
From offering to shovel the snow outta your driveway for a cool $100 to getting heat for helping a penny stock soar in a few hours, 50's use of the social networking website is much like his rap career. Ultimately, controversy is good for publicity, which in turn, helps your career, and he's proof of this.
However, there's times when one can go a bit overboard. Fif' did just that when he came under fire last week after making off-mark comments regarding the Japan quake and the tsunami aftermath, specifically from fans.
He started off ok, tweeting (@50Cent): "Man I hate to say this but the world is coming to a end. Look at japan tell the people you value you love them," followed shortly after with, "US west coast TUSNAMI watch f*** this I'm going back to new york."
After that, though, the tone in 50's tweets began to shift, and it upset some of his over 4 million followers.
"Hawaii under a watch this sh** is crazy. I can't swim," Fif' began. "Now they are saying they know it's gonna hit the west coast damn.
"Its all good Till b*tches see there christian louboutins floating down da street sh** gone get crazy," he later added. "Look this is very serious people I had to evacuate all my h--s from LA, Hawaii and Japan. I had to do it. Lol."
50 did try to get serious, but it didn't matter, people weren't having it.
MTV's RapFix blog spotted some responses from 50's fans who let the hip-hop mogul know just how out of line he was. "50 cent is insensitive and stupid! How can anyone make fun out of such disaster?!!!!! Smh."
Another tweeter @_nathy added, "Congratulations, 50 Cent: YOU'RE AN A**HOLE FOR MOCKING WHAT'S GOING ON IN JAPAN!"
50's tweets hit the blogosphere and one person over at Hip Hop Wired comment page offered a fair view of how many people don't take similar tragedies seriously. "This is a serious disaster, and not a time to joke about it. Hopefully he makes a donation. He isn't the first person to joke about a serious issue, and will not be the last," added the commenter.
In response, 50 told his fellow tweeters to calm down 'cause its only jokes.
"Some of my tweets are ignorant I do it for shock value. Hate it or love it. I'm cool either way 50cent," he wrote.
