The first of this year, Skillz hit everybody with his annual "Rap Up" song, breaking down the biggest things to go down in 2010. So, the Virginia rapper's label, EOne, dropped viral clip in which he breaks down how the whole tradition.
For those who aren't aware, the first "Rap Up" came out in 2002, on Skillz' mixtape. After that, he got so much attention for that one track, the last one on the tape, that the annual free download began and evolved.
Later, he revealed that the latest almost didn't happen. "I wasn't feeling the idea of it anymore. Not knowing that people feel its tradition and they waiting for it," Skillz explained, before saying he got a barrage of requests for the 2010 version, including fans, DJs and peers.
"New Year's Eve came, and people was really sitting, like waiting on it. I was getting private messages (on Twitter)," the rapper continued. "After 12 o'clock, I sent out a picture taughting people like 'You mad? You didn't get it?'
Skillz is the man and I love his rap ups but that cat Bekay got so much more emotion behind his. Bekay been going since 2004, Skillz def started it, but I think it's time to pass the torch, he does;lt sound inspired where as the kid Bekay sounds hungry and brings that raw emotion that I misss so much in hip hop!
