DMX was sentenced to one year in prison a week before Christmas, after pleading guilty to a probation violation, which he called a mistake.
The rapper claimed he slipped up and had a drink during a performance in Scottsdale in November. However, prosecutors claimed he failed to submit drug testing on a scheduled basis.
X (real name: Earl Simmons) has since been moved to the mental-health unit of Arizona's Alhambra Prison Complex, said recent reports.
The rapper was admitted to the Flamenco Mental Health Unit at the Arizona State Prison just before X-Mas, on December 20.
During his sentencing earlier this month, Judge Christine Mulleneaux told the troubled rapper that she believes he has "an undiagnosed mental condition," which might be bi-polar disorder.
However, it's unclear if the admittance was ordered by the court during his hearing, or if he was moved while incarcerated.
DMX was arrested for possession of Oxycontin in November and charged with a probation violation.
His manager Nakia Walker says that he will be forced to remain in the mental-health unit without visitors, for at least 30 days.
