Dorrough Discusses Daughter's Rare Condition In Hopes Of Raising Awareness
By Allen Starbury ♦ Published 10/05/2010

Dorrough and daughterBefore breaking onto the scene in 2008 with his smash single, "Ice Cream Paint Job," Dallas rapper Dorrough was depressed about a medical condition his newborn daughter was born with called Mobius Syndrome. Now, two years later, he's hoping his new found celebrity can help bring more attention to the disorder.

On the track, "Feel This Way" off his debut Dorrough Music, the 23-year-old rapper talks about the ills of parenting and dealing with issues just like this.

With his daughter, now a toddler and "perfectly healthy", says Dorrough, he hopes to raise awareness about the rare condition in order to help his daughter and other children's futures everywhere.

"My whole thing is to really create awareness and to let people know what it is," the rapper said in a video clip released through his label. "I basically wanna, like I say, get support for research and do what I can to better her life, better her future."

According to Wikipedia, Mobius syndrome is "an extremely rare congenital neurological disorder which is characterized by facial paralysis and the inability to move the eyes from side to side. Most people with Möbius syndrome are born with complete facial paralysis and cannot close their eyes or form facial expressions. Limb and chest wall abnormalities sometimes occur with the syndrome. Most people with Möbius syndrome have normal intelligence, although their lack of facial expression is sometimes incorrectly taken to be due to dullness or unfriendliness."

In Dorrough's case, his daughter was unable to eat right for the first few weeks of her life, so she was kept in an intensive care unit so she could be watched over. Then later, he noticed the baby girl was crossed-eyed. Due to those symptons, she was diagnosed with Mobius syndrome.

Now, the rapper hopes to bring awareness to the condition in hopes of bringing more funding for research.

At press time, it was unknown if Dorrough supported any specific foundations related to the research of Mobius syndrome, but for more information and links to foundations and organizations associated with the disorder, visit Wikipedia's page about it here.

Aside from this cause, Dorrough released his second studio album, Get Big, early last month. Its current single is the song "Get Big."
