It's been a few months since we've heard any news about former UFC fighter Kimbo Slice, ever since he was TKO'd by TUF cast-mate Matt Mitrione at UFC 113.
So, we decided to do a little research to see what's going on with big Kimbo.
Since being cut from the UFC following his last defeat, we heard that Strikeforce was interested in the legendary backyard brawler. But apparently, that was untrue and MMA's two biggest promotions have both lost interest.
During a post-fight Strikeforce press conference in mid-June, President Scott Coker was asked by the media about the possibility of Kimbo joining ... and he said no, basically.
"It's the same situation as before where he's a very unique athlete," said Coker. "I have a lot of respect for what he's done. He's comes into a sport that is demanding. That takes a lot of time and energy. And takes a lot of hard work to get in there and fight."
Coker continued, "Even like Herschel, he said this is the hardest thing he's ever done as a professional athlete. And think about that, Herschel Walker is one of the greatest athletes of our time. He said that's the hardest thing he's ever done. And so for Kimbo to come into the MMA world, I give him a lot of respect. He tried it. And you know what, some things are just maybe better to let them go on their way."
After all the hype surrounding Kimbo, his leap into the MMA world wasn't as smooth as he would've liked. It wasn't his fault though. On many occasions, he admitted that he had a long way to go before he could polish his skills, but was thrust into the spotlight before he could reach his potential.
At this point, it's unclear what options Kimbo has in the MMA world as a professional fighter. Certainly, his fame gives him the opportunity to make appearances at different events, but how long can that last?
According to some reports, Kimbo had previously mentioned testing the waters in Japan before he signed with the UFC. At press time, however, it's unclear if he's looked into that option.
Update: According to MMAFighting.com, fight promotion Moosin is eyeing Slice for a possible bout against five-time "World's Strongest Man" Mariusz Pudzianowski.
Moosin executive Corey Fischer told the site: "I would say the Kimbo-Pudzian fight is the furthest from being finished, but we're trying to work on it and make it happen," Fischer said.
