A "Mac Dre Day" celebration, -- marking the birthday of late Bay Area legend Mac Dre on Saturday (July 3), ended in gunfire after police shot a man.
According to reports, nearly 1,500 people gathered at the a park in Vallejo, California on Saturday night to celebrate the late rapper's birthday.
However, the event ended abruptly after local police were called to the scene following reports of gunfire in the park.
When authorities arrived, they spotted 30-year-old Ronar Inocenio trying to conceal a handgun in his waistband. When police tried to question him, he fled on foot prompting a foot pursuit.
According to the Time-Herald, police said that at some point during the chase, Inocenio suddenly turned and pointed his handgun at them, so they opened fire, hitting him multiple times.
Police said he ignored several orders to drop his weapon during the pursuit and officers fired at him after fearing for their own and citizens' safety when he turned the weapon on them, according to the release.
Inocenio was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with non-life threatening injuries where he remains under guard.
Mac Dre was gunned down in Kansas City in 2004. He was in town for a performance. If he were alive today, he would've turned 40 on July 5th.
