Southern Cali rapper, 40 Glocc, announced this week that he's changed his rap moniker from 40 Glocc to Big Bad 40, pronounced Big Bad Four O.
The name changes follows his legal woes brought forth by the authorities in San Bernardino County in California over his affiliation with a local gang called the Colton City Crip.
In May, 40 went on trial for allegedly promoting his gangster lifestyle through his music and videos. The county's District Attorney filed a gang injunction against the rapper barring him from rapping about his alleged gangbangin' lifestyle and/or making any mention of the Crips in his music, interviews, or anything else to do with his music career.
At press time, the outcome of the trial was unknown.
"In a country where freedom of speech is number one on our list of Constitutional rights, I recognize yet another clause in the system and I will not give them another opportunity to use their own laws against me," said Big Bad 40. "My former name was always an acronym. 40 represented the 40 acres and a mule they never gave us. Glocc represented Ghettos Legally Oppressed with Crooked Cops. A change has come so this change must be recognized."
Earlier this year, the rapper announced a new venture with Fontana for his own Zoo Life Entertainment imprint, where he's a compilation introducing his movement and plans to drop his next solo album N.W.A..
The album, which stands for "New World Agenda," is already creating a buzz from its first single "Damn," featuring Ray J. He says the album will cover topics from "politics, police to parties."
He's currently on tour with 50 Cent, promoting his single, album and brand.
