Marvin Isley Dies In Chicago At 56 Years Old
By Allen Starbury ♦ Published 06/07/2010

The Isley BrothersMarvin Isley, the youngest of the soul-funk group the Isley Brothers, died on Sunday (June 6) in Chicago at the age of 56.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Marvin died at a hospice facility, but the cause of death was unknown at press time.

The bassist stopped performing in 1996 because of complications from diabetes. By the mid-90s he had already suffered a stroke, had a kidney transplant, lost both his legs, and the use of his left hand.

Marvin followed in the footsteps of his older brothers by forming a trio with older brother Ernie and brother-in-law Chris Jasper. By the end of the decade, the group joined the older half of the Isleys as its instrumentalists.

The Isley Brothers have been in the music biz for more than five decades, producing popular hits such as "Shout," "Fight the Power" and the Grammy-winning 1969 smash, "It's Your Thing."

Their success landed them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
