At The Movies: ‘Get Him To The Greek’ Has Disappointing Debut, ‘Shrek’ Still On Top

Get Him To the Greek movieIt was another slow weekend at the box office, with new movies failing to pull in viewers -- including "Get Him To The Greek" and Ashton Kutcher's new one, "Killers."

Both new films failed to dethrone "Shrek Forever After" from the top seat.

"Shrek" took the box office for the third weekend in a row, taking in a reported $25.3 million.

Universal's rock 'n' roll comedy "Get Him to the Greek" -- starring Jonah Hill as a record executive escorting an unruly rocker (Russell Brand) from London to Los Angeles for a concert -- took the #2 spot, but earned just $17.4 million.

Then, debuting at #3, with $16.1 million, is the action comedy "Killers," starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher.

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" fell to #4 with $13.9 million, while "Sex and the City 2" closed out the top 5 with $12.6 million.

Other new films included "Marmaduke at #6 with $11.3 million, and "Splice" at #8 with $7.4 million.

The decline in excitement at the box office has some of Hollywood worried, Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com, tells the Associated Press.

Memorial Day weekend, last week, is usually successful for movies, but it generated the lowest box office take since 1993.

"The films a year ago were generating a ton of excitement, and this year's just kind of falling flat. You had four new wide releases, and a three-week-old movie is still No. 1," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. "I don't know if they're bored or if ticket prices are too high or if they just have other things to do."

That wraps things up this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the releases of "The A-Team," and the 2010 revamped "Karate Kid."

This weekend's top 10 is as follows:

1 - "Shrek Forever After," $25.3 million.
2 - "Get Him to the Greek," $17.4 million.
3 - "Killers," $16.1 million.
4 - "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," $13.9 million.
5 - "Sex and the City 2," $12.7 million.
6 - "Marmaduke," $11.3 million.
7 - "Iron Man 2," $7.8 million.
8 - "Splice," $7.5 million.
9 - "Robin Hood," $5.1 million.
10 - "Letters to Juliet," $3 million.
