Indie rapper Murs has teamed up with comic publisher Josh Blaylock to create an online comic book series, via Merch-Girl.com.

The series was officially launched in April, and titled MerchGirl: The Curse of Yumiko Morales. It tells the story of a young girl (Yumiko Morales) encountering strange and mysterious events while she tours with her boyfriend's band "Murder Acts."

To enhance this groundbreaking effort, Murs and producer Foundation are creating 10 original songs to coincide with each chapter.

The rapper and comic publisher first met at the world-famous Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles where the story of Yumiko Morales first came to fruition.

"Murs and I came up with the initial concept and plot together," Blaylock explained. "I came up with the script for the comic and Murs added his creative touch."

To round out their creative team, the duo reached out to illustrator Jose Garcia and colorist Juan Urueta to make MerchGirl: The Curse of Yumiko Morales come to life.

"Because I am on the road touring so often, I wanted to tell a story about the most overlooked, yet one of the most important people on tour -- the merch girl!" says Murs about the comic's inspiration. "I thought, 'Why not combine two of my favorite things: comics and music.' "

Fans can follow the story-arc of the 10-chapter series online with streaming music via Merch-Girl.com. Or, you can also download the comic with popular comic book reader Graphic.ly and soon on iTunes with the ComiXology application. Ultimately, a print version of MerchGirl: The Curse of Yumiko Morales will be available, along with the soundtrack.

In addition, the MerchGirl sketchbook is now available for pre-order through Merch-Girl.com. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the uncanny world of the series and includes exclusive character designs, concept art, liner notes from the MerchGirl soundtrack and creator interviews.
