M.I.A. Uses Blimp At Coachella To Announce Album Release
If you were at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on Friday (April 16) in Indio, California, you definitely caught Jay-Z's headlining performance.
But, you may have noticed that UK rapper M.I.A. was doing a little advertising as well.
According to Rap-Up.com, the rapper -- best known for her 2007 single "Paper Planes," which spawned several hip-hop songs/remixes sampling her "Swagger Like Us" lyric -- hired a blimp to announce upcoming performance dates and the release date for her upcoming third LP.
On the blimp, which had a digital billboard, the words: "New Album 6.29.10" flashed across the scrolling ticker. Then, dates for the upcoming HARD Summer Music Festival in Los Angeles and New York were displayed, since she'll be making appearances.
The L.A. date is August 7th at the L.A. State Park; and the New York date is August 21. Both dates will feature Pharrell's N.E.R.D. group, Major Lazer, and Rye Rye, M.I.A.'s DC protege. For more info, visit HardFest.com.
M.I.A.'s upcoming album is the follow-up to 2007's Kala, and will arrive on the same date as Rye Rye's debut LP, Go! Pop! Bang!
Additionally, the rapper plans to premiere a viral music video for her song, "Born Free," which she debuted first at San Francisco's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival last August.
