Miami rapper Jacki-O is gearing up for the release of a new street album/mixtape, titled Griselda Blanco, which she plans to release digitally.
The album is named after the 70s and 80s Miami-based drug queen, also referred to as la Madrina, the Godmother, and the Black Widow; and was featured in the popular documentaries, Cocaine Cowboys and Cocaine Cowboys II.
According to the rapper, Blanco's struggle in a male-dominated industry is much like hers within the music industry, which is why she chose to name her album after her.
"Despite her infamous background, Griselda was in a game controlled and dominated by men, but she was just as big and bad as they were. She did not play," Jacki says with a laugh. "Being a female in this industry, you got to be a fighter to get your respect, and show people that females work just as hard as the guys do, if not harder.
"I am not condoning her lifestyle, but I can't knock her either, because I'm from the streets of Miami and life was no crystal stair for us," she continued. "There were days we didn't know where our next meal would come from, and sometimes those types of situations can tempt you to get into the street life."
The album's first single is called "How You Been." It's currently being serviced to urban radio and mixshows nationally.

It's been quite some time since the female rapper made a splash on the seen with "Nookie" in 2003, after which she endured industry politics before breaking out onto her own. Last year, Jacki-O dropped the street album, Lil Red Riding Hood, distributing it through her imprint Jackmove Entertainment.
Now, Griselda Blanco is coming and Jacki plans to distribute it through the web, via Myspace, Facebook, and other hip-hop websites.
Aside from the upcoming digital project, the rapper is working on her next album as well, called Ms. Pacman Money Hungry and Relentless, her first autobiography. Until then, download her most recent mixtapes, including Jack Da Ripper, Free Agent, and B.B.B.P (Bad Bitches Bang Pink), on MySpace at Myspace.com/JackiOMusic.
