While Drake and Nicki Minaj are the most visible members of Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment, the label's other artists are creating a buzz in the background. Lil Twist is one of them.
He's been long associated with Weezy, but not until recently did he sign a contract to become an official member of Young Money.
According to NewLilWayne.com, there was also a rumored $1.3 million signing bonus.
The young rapper hails from Dallas, Texas and is just 16 years of age. Weezy first discovered Twist after he opened for him at a local concert. He was so impressed with Twist's flow that he flew him to Atlanta to see if his stage performance would translate in the studio. Needless to say, Twist passed the test with flying colors.
Since then, Lil Twist has garnered over 1 million views on Myspace, and his highly successful debut mixtape The Year Book, which featured Lil Wayne and Mack Maine, received over 500,000 downloads online. His follow-up mixtape, Class President, also garnered major attention and featured his Young Money peers Gudda Gudda, Nicki Minaj, Short Dawg, Tyga, and Cash Money CEO Birdman.
His most notable appearance came on the We Are Young Money compilation on a song called "Girl I Got You," featuring labelmater Lil Chuckee. After shooting a video alongside Lil Wayne (who makes a cameo), the video was featured on BET's "106 and Park."
Now, with a deal in place, Twist is hard at work on his debut album, which is expected sometime late in the summer.
It's official single is called "Love Affair," but a title for his debut is currently unknown.
