Ice Cube Addresses New L.A. Rappers, Says It’s Not His Job To Help Them

Ice CubeIce Cube is really getting his blog on lately, embracing the digital world as he gears up for his next solo album, I Am The West. Last week, he stirred up the pot by explained the title of his new album, saying no one can challenge his claim to being "the West."

Each new blog Cube writes is garnering a lot of comments, and the veteran rapper is reading and answering.

In his latest blog, he chose to answer the long-discussed question as to why the OGs in hip-hop don't work with the new talent.

Cube says he's not here to make anybody famous.

"What's up with these local MC's in L.A. who keep disrespecting me? They're just mad cause I don't f**** with they wack-ass. They ain't on my level, why should I waste my time," Cube wrote. "I don't even remember ever meeting these clowns or even being in the same room with any of 'em. They can't make a name for themselves, so they need help from the OGs. I refuse the throw'em a life line.

"F*** 'em. It ain't my job to make nobody famous. And for the record, I ain't scared of no n****. Especially, no rappers ...seriously people," he continued.

Cube also discussed fans' hopes of him and Mack 10 reconciling. While he didn't rule it out, it doesn't sound too promising.

"Me and Mack 10 together again? I never say never, but he has the kiss the ring first," he said.

The rapper also details his week in the new blog entry, so head to IceCube.com for more.

I had 2 agree with him cuz that’s not his job to being da rappers 2 help da west.We need to rebuild da west together then let da south taking over hip-hop,It’s tyme 2 come together to fight fo da west

sexysabs - March 18, 2010 at 6:11 am

I agree. Each rapper has to make his or her own way that’s what makes them inspirational, its about the struggle, the trials and beating it all. i’m sick of niggas calling each other out on tracks and f*cking up, just to get sales. That s*it is played!!

Multi-reallionaire - March 18, 2010 at 7:00 am

Cube is right. Its not his job to help them. Rappers have to stand on their two feet and do it for themselves instead of waiting for a handout. Most of these rappers are not bringing any social commentary or anything new to the game anyway.

Niki G. - March 18, 2010 at 7:55 am

Yes, this man is entitled to his opinion. His personal contributions to Hip-Hop have revolutionized the genre. I just don’t comprehend his relunctance to plug the emerging lyrical West coast MCs. Maybe this triple OG is “secretly” enjoying all this “Dance-Hop.” (Cube, show us how you FLEX!) If Cali MCs would stop all this light-weight hating and unify, the West would be more dominant than the South.

chris roker - March 18, 2010 at 8:49 am

Cube right. These niggaz wack. They make the West look bad. Niggaz wanna rep Compton but, they from Carson, ex strippers, muthafuckas wanna claim ah hood and never got put on! Cube really the last nigga really born and raised in South Central. Do yo research! Everybody check fo K.P. He outta South Central, cuz hot!

sum guy - March 18, 2010 at 11:05 am

Ice cube is right but lets be real if every rapper came together and started talking about the real social issuses and not bullshit gun and car rap the labels and radio stations would have no choice but to bring real music back. Also I hate Jay-Z but he was on point with the D.O.A song besides its a sad day for music when a label like Young Money can make millions having every artist use auto-tune

DreTruth - March 18, 2010 at 11:30 am

He has always felt that way. If you ever read anything by cube or any of his interviews he has always felt this way -always. I don’t agree but hey that’s his will.

sirtheboss - March 18, 2010 at 11:59 am

I keep seeing people comparing the west to the south on here and there is one thing you have to keep in mind. these are 2 different coast with 2 different styles. Cube is a founding memebr of NWA the first west coast super power so he’s right. His style don’t mix with these up and comers. You don’t see Scarface making songs with Soldier Boy.

Crown Loyal - March 18, 2010 at 12:41 pm

In a way, Cube is right but at the same time I feel he should defintely guide the new school of West Coast cats just like he had guidance as the Jerry Curl guy behind Eazy and Dre. And when he left them he ran to Public Enemy to make him official in the East and put out that classic soon after. He doesn’t have to hold their hand, but he should atleast give advice and direction to these young dudes instead of bashing them and putting them down.

JayDee - March 18, 2010 at 1:03 pm

i agree. why the fuck should he have to waste his time on wack ass emcees. ice cube keep making good music

I don’t expect things to get better for a while with Ice Cube dropping an album entitled, “I Am The West.”(7/13)

BLACTAI - March 18, 2010 at 3:19 pm

Old rapper dont want young rappers taking their shine. snoop dogg, dr dre, and ice cube has always been the west superstar. it never change unlike new york. where the krs one to ll cool j to

Cube’s job is to do what Cube wants to do. He’s absolutely right.

sherita - March 18, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Somebody had to help Cube, why cant he return the favor? Everybody needs somebody.

Baby Dame - March 18, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Creativity is what the artist thinks is dope, not what the mass majority thinks. We just need more creative artist with their own sound, who don’t give a crap what any body else thinks. That’s when the hits follow.

jaymoney - March 18, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Aint none of the new west artist asking for his help or anything so I don’t know why he’s trying to make it seem like they do…think about it everyone his album is going to drop so he needs some kind of way to keep his name buzzing……it happens all the time when someones ablum is coming out….remember 50 and rick ross and so on and so fouth….what a loser…

VENGEANCE IS MINE!!!! - March 18, 2010 at 9:31 pm

Mack 10 has 2 kiss the pinky ring first????

lmol he juz sh!tted on ol’ mac 1-0………

VENGEANCE IS MINE!!!! - March 18, 2010 at 9:40 pm

MAN, HANDS DOWN DUDE IS A LEGEND.
AND HE AIN’T GOTTA HELP NOBODY IF HE DOESN’T WANT TO HE HAS HELPED OTHERS IN THE PAST BUT DID THEY ACHIEVE LEGENDARY STATUS? NOT, IS JUZ A WASTE OF TIME!
CROOKED-I IS NICE BUT HE AIN’T ON CUBE’S LEVEL OR ACHIEVED SUCCESS ON HIS LEVEL SO IT GOES THE SAME FOR THE REST OF THE WEST COAST ARTIST THEY EXPECT FOR SOME ONE TO PUT THEM ON INSTEAD OF PAVING THEIR OWN WAY.
BUT ON THA REAL:

AIN’T NOBODY REPPED THA WEST HARDER THAN 2PAC!

NUFF SAID.

BigWill - March 18, 2010 at 11:12 pm

This is about getting money plain and simple..nias don’t care about unity…MONEY bitches get that through your red/purple koolaid drinking minds.

DreTruth - March 19, 2010 at 9:31 am

true didn’t no body rep the west harder than def row period but then look who was the supervisor of music at that LABEL cube ole partna DR.DRE.

katolocc - March 19, 2010 at 3:38 pm

I would’nt help now of these wack ass artists neither.Only Game has been sucessful artists out west because he respects the OG’s that paved the way.Jay-Rock,G.Malone have absolutely no potential to make it cause the say the same stuff the OG’s were saying in the 90′ m am born & raised in L.A. & can tell you these niggas niggas have no buzz. Stop looking for Dr.Dre to produce your album, Stop Chain-Snatchin, & most importantly get a new style.

Nigga Mentality - March 20, 2010 at 8:16 pm

I think Cube has the typical nigga mentality.Cube was brought into the game by Dre. Who was at the time already connected. That’s why the west is struggling right now. A house negro will always be a house negro.

MACCAPONE - March 26, 2010 at 3:55 pm
