Gucci Mane Preps Official Mixtape To Keep Fans Fed Until Next Album
By Allen Starbury ♦ Published 03/17/2010

Gucci ManeRapper Gucci Mane may be serving time, but his camp is keeping the fans fed with new music, via a new mixtape, which he'll be dropping in stores next month.

The Burrprint 2 is the follow-up to one of the biggest mixtape releases of 2009. It is also the first of a series of commercial mixtapes the rapper plans to release this year.

The new tape is hosted by DJ Holiday and is a mix of all new songs and interludes featuring some of the biggest names in popular music today. Guests include Trey Songz, Ludacris, Nikki Minaj, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Lil' Kim, Yo Gotti, Jim Jones and Gucci's Bricksquad labelmates Waka Flocka Flame, OJ Da Juiceman and others.

According to his label, the collection is the last piece of music Gucci Mane had recorded before his recent incarceration in 2009. The opening track, "Live From Fulton County Jail," was recorded over the phone from behind bars.

"Gucci called me from Fulton County and told me to start recording," DJ Holiday explained. "He busted a hot verse right there on the phone and that's what you hear on the record, with the 1-minute automated warning and all, 'you have one minute remaining', it's so real."

Gucci says that his fans are used to have constant material, so he is dropping this new mixtape as a thank you for supporting him.

"Many of my fans know me from the massive amounts of mixtapes I've released over the years," the rapper said, who is currently serving a 1-year sentence for a parole violation. "The Burrprint 2 mixtape is just something I wanted to put out there as a thank you for all those who have stuck by me through my incarceration, all those who have written letters, this is for you... I will be home soon."

The Burrprint 2 is due in stores April 13.

The mixtape series will preface Gucci's follow-up album, The Appeal, scheduled for a Summer 2010 release. And, it comes on the heels of DJ/producer Diplo's Free Gucci mixtape, a re-working of previous material from Gucci's The Cold War mixtape series, and Gucci's first major full-length LP The State vs. Radric Davis.
