The folks over at SubUrbanToys recently sent us one of their newest products, the Rad Blaster, which they boast as the "first ever boombox/mp3 player". So, after playing with it, we thought the niftly little device was something our readers might like.
Info/Specs: The mini-boombox about the size of your computer mouse, and serves as not only an MP3 player which plays its audio through two tiny speakers, but also has the capability to record audio and store up to two gigs of data with its USB 2.0 interface.
Here's some of its specs:
- 1" true color OLED screen 128*64
- MP3/WMA/WAV audio format-
Support lyric synchronization display
- Built-in MIC w/ hi-fi record & repeat
- 7 EQ (natural, rock, pop, etc)
- Multiple languages
- Multiple playback modes
- High speed USB 2.0 (FS) interface
- Built-in high quality speakers
- Headphones port
Why We Like It ... Or Not: The Rad Blaster is a fun little gadget that kids, or even adults, can play music through mini-speakers on the go. However, it's more for individual use rather than to get a dance floor going. The speakers aren't very loud, and won't fill a large room, but if you're using it for yourself, it works well enough. Included is a small silver necklace, so the boombox can hang around your neck while out and about.
There are some downsides to the device though. It only holds 2GB worth of data, which can equal anywhere 360 to 550+ songs. While that is quite a bit of music, most MP3 players these days are capable of holding a lot more. If you're using the Rad Blaster's audio recording device, or utilizing it for data storage (via the USB port), that means even less songs. We also found that the player digital interface was a little cheesy, reminding us of a cheap one you may find on eBay or around the web. It's $59.99 price tag also seemed a little high as well.
Despite our gripes, the Rad Blaster it a fun little device, perfect for a young kid or an adult who's young at heart.
a fine example of technology gone too far. y, do we need to have this when we already have the iphone, mp3 player, apple phone, ipod, wii, blackberry and everything else? and at 59.99??!!! you must have lost your damn mind!

I think it will be more popular if it become smaller. The appearance is cute, however, ultra big as a portable device.
