It's been almost a year since Travis Barker performed with late pal DJ AM. Although AM is definitely missed, Barker is ready to get back into the groove of things, regarding live shows with a DJ.
He's chosen turntablist A-Trak, with whom he plans to create a new project with, as well as head on tour.
The pair recently revealed, via an interview with MTV, that they'll be teaming up for a string of shows, kicking off with small, "intimate" events in early March at Hollywood's Roxy Theatre.
It will be the first time he's performed live with a DJ since AM passed away in August.
According to Barker, the pairing of himself and A-Trak has always been in the back of his mind. They jammed with each other in his studio last year, and realized it was a perfect fit.
Trak said he was "flattered" that the rockstar drummer would even consider him.
"When Travis hollered, I was definitely flattered. We started by jamming once, back in the fall, just came over to the studio, and we did, like, one hour of jamming, which we thought was maybe a half an hour," A-Trak explained to MTV. "I just started playing records and scratching, and he was playing on top, and it went really, really naturally. It was very fluid. And we stopped and looked at the watch, and it was like, 'Oh, we've been playing for an hour and didn't even realize it.' And I think that solidified for both of us in our minds that we could do this pretty easily."
The pair say their set will be similar to the sets Travis performed with DJ Am. They'll both perform versions of their remixes of other's tracks, plus new material they've been creating in the studio.
"It's going to be a mix of everything," A-Trak said. "We're still kind of rehearsing it, but I think it's going to be some songs people recognize, some of the remixes Travis has done, some of my remixes. Just kind of mix it up."
On March 9, and 10, A-Trak and Barker will perform at the Roxy in Hollywood, then plan to take their show on the road. Next will be SXSW, and then the Winter Music Conference. Other dates will follow.
Tickets for the Roxy show go on sale Thursday (February 18). The show will kick off with Rob Roy and Kid Sister before Barker and A-Trak take the stage.
