The East Pull Off Win Over West In Close Fought 2010 NBA All-Star Game
By Randall Stevens ♦ Published 02/15/2010

Dwyane Wade at 2010 NBA All-Star GameLast year it was the West, led by Shaq and Kobe, but this year, the East was able to pull out the win at the NBA All-Star Game in Dallas on Sunday (February 14).

It was a close game too. After Chris Bosh missed a lob dunk, the West's Chauncey Billups hit a jumper to tie the game at 137. Then, as Wade dribbled the ball past halfcourt, Deron Williams fouled him, not realizing the game was tied. Wade sank two free throws and after a timeout, the West ran a play for Dirk Nowitzki, who had a look from three, but was fouled instead by Dwight Howard.

Dirk's free throws tied the game with 7.7 seconds left.

The East then set up a play for Lebron, who was doubled teamed. So instead, Chris Bosh drove the baseline and was fouled. He then, calmly sunk the free throws for a 141-139 East lead with 5 seconds left.

The West tried to answer back when Carmelo Anthony tried for a three at the buzzer, but to no avail. The East was victorious.

It was the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade that took the evening's MVP honors. He finished with 28 points -- many of which were acrobatic dunks -- 6 rebounds, 11 assists, and 5 steals.

"To be able to put on a show like that and to get the win, and to make key plays down the stretch was what I like," Wade said.

Lebron James had 25 points, and Bosh had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Melo left the West with 27 points, 10 rebounds.

The East and West were out a couple stars too -- the West missed Kobe Bryant, while the East was out Allen Iverson and Big Shaq. It was the first time both Kobe and Shaq missed the big game since '97.

It didn't matter though, it was a fun game that thrilled the crowd. A big crowd too! In fact, the BIGGEST!

Despite a lot of snow in Dallas, the All-Star game broke record attendance numbers. According to an Associated Press report, it set the record for the most-attended basketball game ever with a crowd of 108,713 people filling Cowboys Stadium Sunday night.

"It's meant to be a party," Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said. "We say we're going to throw the biggest party like you've never seen before and that's exactly what it turned out to be."
