Lil Wayne appeared in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday (February 9) to be sentenced for weapons possession charge, but got a break, when his sentencing was delayed until March 2nd due to dental surgery.
Weezy (real name: Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) was set to be formally sentenced and begin serving a one-year incarceration as a part of a plea deal where he pleaded guilty for a 2007 arrest in New York.
During the hearing, Weezy's attorney Stacey Richman informed that judge that the rapper had suffered a cracked tooth and needed to postpone his sentence for surgery.
The judge allowed it, rescheduling for March 2nd.
Wayne will undergo surgery on February 12th, and needs up to 10 days to recover, his attorney said. While prosecutors offered a date of February 25th for the rapper to turn himself in, the judge selected the March date instead.
There won't be any delays from here on out, according to the judge: "I don't want this to get pushed back anymore. This is the last adjournment."
During the early morning hours of Tuesday, Weezy spent nearly an hour speaking to fans during a live stream from the studio on his recording artist Lil Twist's Ustream page.
"For all the people that didn't know, this is the last time you gonna be seeing me live for a long motherf***in' time. So watch: This is history," he said.
"Tonight's my last night. ... I came to the studio to get some work done. To all you artists out there, that should be a message or example. I came to work."
He seemed as though he expected to head to jail. At the end of the live feed, while sitting in his car ready to pull away, Weezy said: "Do not forget about me 'cause I will forever think about you. I cannot wait for you to see me again."
