Drew Brees & The Saints Bring Home The Super Bowl Crown to New Orleans
By Randall Stevens ♦ Published 02/08/2010

Saints' Drew Brees The underdogs took the "W" to become the Super Bowl Champs. Those underdogs are the New Orleans Saints, who vaulted their city to to victory in Super Bowl XLIV when they beat out the favored Indianapolis Colts with a 31-17 Sunday night (February 7).

In the past 43 years, the Saints had only won two post season games, but this year, they left South Florida as Champs for the first time in history. There's no question Bourbon Street is throwing the biggest celebration on the planet right now.

Despite ending the first quarter down 10, Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his supporting cast rallied to Peyton Manning and the in one of NFL's most thrilling title games.

It was a surprise onside kick to start the second-half that sparked the Saints'. Their 25th-ranked defense made several key stops down the stretch, but Tracy Porter's 74-yard pick of Manning with 3:12 left to play clinched it for the team.

The key to the evening's victory, however, was Brees.

"We just believed in ourselves and we knew that we had an entire city and maybe an entire country behind us," Brees said. "What can I say? I tried to imagine what this moment would be like for a long time, and it's better than expected."

Brees also received the game's biggest honor, being named Super Bowl MVP. He threw for was 32 of 39 overall for 288 yards, with two touchdowns, zero interceptions. He also completed his final 10 passes, and those 32 completions tied New England's Tom Brady for the most ever in Super Bowl history.

"Four years ago who ever thought this would be happening when 85 percent of the city was under water from (Hurricane) Katrina," Brees said. "Most people not knowing if New Orleans would ever come back or if the organization and the team would come back. ... This is the culmination of that belief and that faith."

On Sunday, football fans around the country witnessed history. Congrats to Brees for his stellar performance and the entire Saints team for the win!
