Retired NFL star Warren Sapp was arrested in Miami early Saturday morning (February 6) on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge for an alleged confrontation with his girlfriend.
According to TMZ, the 37-year-old Sapp is accused of attacking his girlfriend at the Shore Club Hotel at around 5:00 a.m., leaving her with a "swollen right knee and bruises on the back of her neck," the arrest report said.
The unnamed victim claims Sapp allowed her to sleep in his hotel room, but then, came into the room early in the morning and pulled her out of bed. She then says he began arguing about guys she was hanging out with earlier Friday night (February 5), before things escalated and became physical.
She says Sapp "grabbed her and began to choke her," and eventually threw her out of the room.
Sapp had a different story though. He told people that he did allow her to stay in his room, but later decided that she needed to leave because "he was expecting company." He says he was trying to help her leave, but she fell.
He is currently in Miami for the Super Bowl, serving as an analyst for the NFL Network and on Showtime's "Inside the NFL"
The Network told TMZ that he will not appear on the NFL Network until they review the incident.
