Although he's busy promoting his latest album, Malice N Wonderland, Snoop Dogg is taking his executive position at Priority Records seriously. His latest order of business was signing a new act -- Cypress Hill.
Last week, Cypress Hill made a surprise appearance during Snoop's set on the "Lopez Tonight" show, helping him perform his single "I Wanna Rock".
Then, on Friday (January 15), Snoop confirmed news of the signing.
"My role as Creative Chairman of Priority Records has put me in the driver's seat to help revive the most important west coast hip-hop label," Snoop said in a statement. "As such, I'm excited to announce my first signing as Cypress Hill. Cypress Hill is undeniably one of the most important hip-hop groups in music history, not only are they incredibly talented and the first Latino hip-hop group to go platinum, they are also from the West Coast, so this signing is the perfect marriage."
Cypress is one of the best selling Latino hip-hop groups in history. The group consists of B-Real, Sen Dogg, Erc Bobo and DJ Muggs. Their new album, reportedly titled Rise Up, will be the group's first since 2004's Till Death Do Us Part.
According to the group, they've been working on this new project for more than three years.
"We took a little break after the last record to work on individual projects," B-Real said in a recent interview. "Both Sen Dog and I wanted to put out our own solo records, which we had been working on for some time. Though we were doing other things, we each kept ideas in mind for Cypress Hill and would go into the studio periodically to record. It was an amazing way to work and resulted in what I think is our best record yet."
At press time, a release date for the album had not been confirmed.
