In the wake of the destructive earthquake that rocked Haiti earlier this week, several celebrities are trying to do their part to help. While Wyclef Jean has raised more than a $1 million through his Yéle Haiti organization, others are pitching in as well.
UGK's Bun B is gearing up for a fundraiser event called "Houston For Haiti," where a stellar line-up of the city's artists will perform. Along with Bun B, Slim Thug, Trae The Truth, ESG, Lil O, Candi Redd, Just Brittany, Corey Mo and The Party Boyz have been confirmed to perform, so far, with more artist are expected to join the bill. Local athletes including Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans will also make appearances.
"We all need to get involved," says Bun B. "Race, color or creed, we are all Haitians right now, and we need to help our brothers and sisters!"
The event will go down on Monday (January 18) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Warehouse Live in Houston. Tickets are on sale now for $20, through WarehouseLive.com. All proceeds will be donated to Haiti relief funds through Care.org www.care.org.
While Bun is covering Houston, DC rapper Wale will be throwing his own benefit concert in Washington DC on January 18th.
At 9:30 Club in DC, Wale will headline the benefit show, with other DC area artists including DC Don Juan, Tabi Bonney, Phil Ade, XO, Kingpin Slim, K-Beta, and special surprise guests are set to take the stage as well.
General admission tickets are available for $20, while VIP tickets sell for $100 the 9:30 Club box office and online at 930.com. All ticket sales will be donated to Yele Haiti Foundation and Partners in Health Organization.
Just this Friday (January 15), the NBA and National Basketball Players Association announced that they will contribute $1 million to support Haiti's relief efforts.
Additionally, Philadelphia 76ers center and Haiti native Samuel Dalembert taped an "NBA Cares" public service announcement for UNICEF, encouraging fans to contribute to the relief efforts. The PSA is currently running on all NBA broadcasts. During the Sixers' home game on Friday, UNICEF President and CEO Caryl Stern will be in attendance to accept a $100,000 donation from Dalembert, who will also match donations made by fans this evening.
