In the summer of 2009, rapper Plies was criticized when he sparked a melee during an Atlanta concert, thrown by radio station Hot 107.9, after tossing $50,000 in cash into the crowd.
When he returned for their holiday "Jingle Bash 2009" concert, he gave away money, but just to one lucky fan.
According to the Hip-Hop Enquirer, the Fort Meyers rapper stopped mid-performance and asked "Who was a senior in high school?" After panning the crowd for one lucky person, he found 18-year-old Khambrea Johnkins, who attends Carver High School in Atlanta.
Johnkins was brought onto stage by Plies, and in front of an estimated 15,000 screaming fans, he surprised her by telling her that if she wanted to attend college after graduation he would pay her entire tuition.
According to the site, the 18-year-old is a great student who maintains a 4.0 GPA, and wants to become a nurse after attending the University of Miami once she is finished with high school.
The school is approximately $52,000.00 per year, so her four-year college stint will cost over $200,000.
"I thought I wouldn't be able to go to the school because the tuition was so expensive, but Plies has made my dream come true," Johnkins said.
She tells the website that when she spoke with Plies on the phone, he just wanted her to promise that she would "go hard" on her studies, and believes she will not let him down.
