Manny Pacquiao Threatens Legal Action Over Drug Testing Controversy
Published 12/27/2009, by Randall Stevens

Manny PacquiaoFollowing a press release earlier this week, where boxer Floyd Mayweather's camp claimed that Manny Pacquiao had refused to subject to Olympic style drug testing -- derailing a possible mega-fight sometime early next year -- the Filipino boxer is threatening to take legal action over the possible implications of the news.

Pac-Man is refusing to agree to Mayweather's demands. Shortly after the news broke, Golden Boy Promotions' Richard Schaefer said he was told that Pacquiao doesn't want to undergo the blood tests, because of superstition and it'd distrupt his training. Pacquiqo did, however, say he'd have his blood drawn before the kick-off press conference and immediately after the fight

"Todd told me that Pacquiao has difficulty with taking blood and doesn't want to do it so close to the fight," said Schaefer. "He, Pacquiao, would only agree to have blood drawn before the kick-off press conference and after the fight."

Mayweather struck back with a statement saying Pacquiao's decision looks bad.

"In a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship at the highest level. I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same," he said. "It leaves me with great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that nightI hope that this is either some miscommunication or that Manny will change his mind and step up and allow these tests, which were good enough for all these other great athletes, to be performed by USADA."

Now, with all the controversy swirling following the war of words between the two camps, Pacquiao released a statement on his personal website, saying he'd be filing a case "as soon as possible."

"Enough is enough. These people -- Mayweather Sr, Jr, and Golden Boy Promotions -- think it is a joke and a right to accuse someone wrongly of using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs," the statement began. "I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy, but I think they have gone overboard.

"I have instructed my promoter, Bob Arum, head of Top Rank Inc, to help me out in the filing of the case as soon as possible because I have had people coming over to me now asking if I really take performance-enhancing drugs and I have cheated my way into becoming the number one boxer in the world."

As the statement continued, Pacquaio cleared up rumors over possible drug use, saying he's never used any type of steroids or anything else in his training, and will never use them.

"I maintain and assure everyone that I have not used any form or kind of steroids and that my way to the top is a result of hard work, hard work, hard work and a lot of blood spilled from my past battles in the ring, not outside of it," Pacquiao said. "I have no idea what steroids look like and my fear in God has kept me safe and victorious through all these years."

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach added that the demands of Mayweather are not necessary under the rules governing fights in Nevada, calling them minds games.

"We have passed every test ever given to us. We go by the commission rules, since when does the fighter make up the rules?, " he said.

manny grew up in a remote area where people Seldom see doctors. I know alot of people in their areas are afraid of needles. manny last time had neurogenic shock after blood extraction ( morales fight ? ). I hope may weather understand that.

To manny: may be he should lie down during blood extraction and avoid looking at the blood to avoid neurogenic shock. May weather already put a big question mark on you. I hope you can prove him wrong

Lester B. - December 27, 2009 at 10:25 am

Big Ron - December 27, 2009 at 12:27 pm

FLOYD just man the hell up and quit running.

Pacman never had a history of any illegal drugs. This cat has been fighting in the U.S. since 2001 and never tested positive for anything.

Justa MAN UP FLOYD! You ducked all the top welters like Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, Paul Williams and chose to fight a f*cking LIGHTWEIGHT in Marquez! Come on man, you can’t fool us no more!

Stop being a coward and Man up FLOYD!

topofnewyork210 - December 27, 2009 at 12:32 pm

I think he should just comply

jun - December 27, 2009 at 9:51 pm

I hope Manny just sue the enigmatic Mayweathers and forget about fighting someone who only wants to fight thru talk shows and newspapers, it’s obvious Mayweather does not want to fight. He’s got hem on the ropes now, sue him for defamation and just claim the 25 million in loss income and he’d have whipped Floyd’s butt off like what the Coward wanted to do to him, beat him thru a media blitz of negative propaganda. Just sue the man and LOL.

A-Beatz of WTNRRADIO.COM - December 28, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Manny should not have to comply to this. THE COMISSION ISNT ASKING FOR IT IN NEVADA!!! They dont need to do this. ITS MAYWEATHER ASKING FOR IT! Let Manny take the test when he wants , and after the fight too, and if he fails regardless of the outcome of the fight…HE LOSES ON DQ. But FLOYD…PLEASE MY BROTHER…CUT THE SHINANIGANS. YOU KNOW MANNY IS ON THE UP AND UP!!

cd - December 28, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Bull*&%! Manny, you can’t hide what’s in your blood system. Ask any Doctor around the world. Arum doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Urine samples are not as revealing as blood sample is. Whoever Arum’s medical expert is needs to have his liscense revoked right away! He must have gotten his liscense off of the Internet.

Lester B. - December 28, 2009 at 4:15 pm

12 gauge you’re the cockhead fag. He said he’s taken drug test before. Y be scared of a random drug test.

dretruth - December 29, 2009 at 9:30 am

I don’t give a hot damn what no one says he’s hiding something. He don’t have to take a needle drug test the hair and pee pee does just fine.

falconfighter - December 29, 2009 at 6:58 pm

IT is so funny some of the mayweather’s fans are riding with the BS accusing manny of steroids. This against the pricnciple of most people including money just to submit on mind boggling bullying of mayweather. The fact is he is afraid of money thats why he is trying to do everything to disrupt manny.

falconfighter - December 29, 2009 at 6:59 pm

The BS testing he is asking is not necessary manny’s camp already have a counteroffer of blood testing and all experts said it is sufficient enough. Still Floyd camp is not on agreeing mode and continues the insinuation and accusations.

falconfighter - December 29, 2009 at 6:59 pm

This is the grandest deceptive moves by GBP and mayweather despite the fact that GBP has a stake on the career of Manny. Really bad attitude of a company and floy. I think it is better for manny to fight yuri for his 8th division title and leave floy to paul williams or shane mosely.

spyder856 - January 27, 2010 at 8:06 am

Manny is afraid of Mayweather, that’s why he is refusing to take the drug test.

spyder856 - January 27, 2010 at 8:11 am

When they do fight and Mayweather beat the shit out of him, I want all you Mayweather Haters to shut the hell up and get off his dick.
