Reggae star Buju Baton is still in custody, while he awaits trial in a drug case brought forth by the DEA. Even with the odds stacked against him, the Jamaican musician's camp and family are in his corner.
His label, Gargamel Records, recently spoke with CaribWorldNews.com, explaining that they fully support Buju and plan to get him the best legal representation possible.
"This is Buju and we're going to get him the top legal representation there is. We are ready to fight," said label head, Tracii McGregor.
According to TheBoomBox.com, Buju waived his right to a bail hearing, which is why he's currently being held at a Miami federal prison.
McGregor says Buju's previous lawyer has been relieved, and they will be selecting a defense team for the reggae star soon.
The musician has been in federal custody since Thursday (December 10). He has been charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. If convicted, he could face 20 years to life in prison.
In the meantime, Gargamel Records will continue pushing Buju Banton on the music side of things. They said they will be releasing a slew of music videos in support of his most recent album, Rasta Got Soul, which has been nominated for a Grammy.
