Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry was currently "battling for his life" after falling from the back of a pickup truck Wednesday (December 16) during a domestic dispute with his fiancee, said reports. But, on Thursday (December 17), he passed away from his injuries.
According to the LA Times, a dispute began at a home in Charlotte, North Carolina just before noon between he and his fiancee, Loleini Tonga. The 26-year-old NFL player jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as Tonga was driving away from the residence.
The couple continued to argue, and then at some point while she was driving, he "came out of the back of the vehicle," police said in a statement.
The 26-year-old NFL player was in critical condition on Wednesday after "suffering life-threatening injuries".
UPDATE: Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday (December 17). Henry was 26. He became engaged to Loleini Tonga in March. The couple has been raising three children.
Teammate Chad Ochocinco emotionally recalled the late Chris Henry in the Bengals locker room on Thursday. "Chris was a very good, very good friend of mine," he told reporters, holding back tears. "We were extremely close. It's sad to see that it's come to this point."
No charges have been filed in the incident as of press time.
Henry has been on injured reserve with the Bengals since November 9 due to a dislocated forearm.
