Before shooting to stardom as a solo artist, T-Pain was a member of a group called the Nappy Headz.
The remaining members of the group are calling Pain out now ... for leaving them behind once he blew up, in a new documentary titled "The Untold Story: Nappy Headz."
The documentary, released on DVD, chronicles the Tallahassee, Florida group's rise in the south, years before Pain signed with Akon's Konvict label and became one of the biggest names in hip-hop.
According to the film, the Nappy Headz devised a plan for each member to go solo in hopes of bringing more notoriety back to the group. But, when T-Pain's profile began to rise, he didn't followed the plan. They've remained silent over the years, and tell their story for the first time, via DVD.
Since dropping his debut, Rappa Ternt Sanga in 2005, Pain has gone on to release a total of three solo albums, each producing monster singles that helped him rise to superstardom. Despite all his success, he's never mentioned his former group.
The way you did it. You didn't tell us. You just started making songs. You ran off," a member of the group says in the film's trailer. "It had to be a Nappy Head for them to know T-Pain."
"I'm just disappointed in the way he let the success get to him," another member added.
The documentary features Florida legends like TJ Chapman (of TJ's DJ's), and Shaheed Najm (Pain's estranged father and former Nappy Headz manager).
Najm previously criticized his son for allegedly turning his back on his groupmates and family for Akon, whom he called a "bad muslim," and "con artist."
T-Pain has yet to address the film, or its accusations.
The film is available on DVD for $14.95 at TheNappyHeadzStory.com. Watch the film's trailer below.
It’s so easy to forget your roots when you got money and fame but that shit comes and go but your homies before all that shit will still be your homies.
who knows the truth. money can change you, but at the same time you get people to expect a hand out after you put in all the work to get where you at. a lot of people get the give me syndrome… so you have to be cautious of everyone’s intentions… there is a such thing as male gold diggers… be cautious of your surroundings when dat cheese start to role inn… gotta learn how to weed out the snakes!!!
True its fucked up what he did . but to call another man out is being a hoe ass nigga. handle that shit internally. The whole world dont need to know your business
Why not call T Pain out that’s the only way he will take notice, otherwise he wouldn’t even acknowledge them guys this entertainment business turns people on there true family, look at 50 with Bang Em Smurf niggas is foul & he talking about Jay & Beans what a hypocrite.
I remember them as a group. I do think tpain should’ve @ least gave them studio time and hooked them up witta few a&r’s. But when u got wayne on one line, jd on another, its easy 2 look @ ur old peers and consider em bums and feel u going backwards by talking 2 them. but hey, ur a millionare, doesn’t matter who u stepped on or over 2 get 2 the top @ this point
i ain’t mad at them but i don’t know if i would put a dvd out tho.they coulda still got in the buisness without exposing dude, even if he was fraud.i would tell t that he was fraud first and maybe only.but if they were hard with pain they can go hard without the dude.
oh the nappy heads -see I didn’t even read the article but I knew one of them look fa mil ar but it is what it is – people growup and forget all about you.
ITz REALLY SAD WHEN NIGGAZ DEPEND ON ANOTHER NIGGA TO HELP THEM OUT OF POVERTY. IF THEM FOOLz PUT AS MUCH ENERGY INTO THEIR MUZICC AS THEY DID THISD DVD MAYBE THEY WOULDNT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. EVERY GROUP AINT MEANT TO STAY 2GETHER AND THESE NIGGAZ MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK LIKE BITCHES WITH ALL THIS COMPLAINING THEY DOING.IF T-PAIN DID’NT POP THEY WOULDNT HAVE AN ISSUE. SO MY MSG TO THEM NIGGAZ IS GO TO THE STUDIO OR SHUT THE FUCC UP.
