Eminem is the Best-Selling Artist of the Decade
By Miles Bennett ♦ Published 12/10/2009

EminemHe might've been left off MTV's "Hottest MC in the Game" list for 2009, but that doesn't matter because Eminem has been named the Best-Selling Artist of the Decade, a much bigger title we'd say.

This week, Nielsen SoundScan revealed their list of best-selling artists and Albums for the Decade, as it comes to a close. Eminem topped the list, surpassing the Beatles to chart at in the #1 spot.

Over the past 10 years, the Detroit rapper has sold over 32.2 million albums -- thanks to multi-platinum LPs like 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP and 2002's The Eminem Show, which sold 10.2 million and 9.8 million copies respectively. Both albums place at the #4 and #5 spots on the decade's best-selling albums right behind efforts from *NSYNC, the Beatles and Norah Jones.

The Beatles were right behind Eminem for best-selling, but did have the best-selling album of the decade with their greatest hits collection, 1, which has sold nearly 11.5 million copies.

While Eminem sold the most albums, he didn't crack the Best-Selling Digital Singles of the Decade. Flo Rida's infectious "Low", featuring T-Pain, sat atop that list, selling 5.2 million digital copies of the hit single, while Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas, Soulja Boy, and Timbaland all landed in the list's top 10.

Eminem's latest release, Relapse, sold 1.5 million copies since dropping this year. He's got some time to go to add to his sales figures though. He'll be dropping Relapse: The Refill on December 22.

Below are the top 10 spots for both lists:

Notice that ALL those albums came out 2003 or before? People don't buy albums anymore, it's all about one hot single that these lil kids can download. No wonder everyone is goin' broke...you make a lot more money from selling one album than from selling one single.

Speakerboxx/Love Below was a double album. It sold 5.5 physical units. Those are counted twice for certification, but it's still 5.5 units.

I'm sure it was the best selling double album of the decade, though.

Most illegal downloads would be the more interesting (and telling) list.

Where the heck are the backstree boys at. There millenium cd sold over 13 mil copies even but it was released in 1999. And i know Black and Blue did well too....

Ja-Rule is a joke. 50-Cent is forever King of NYC due to the fact that he aint fake like that bitch Jay-Z. No other rapper has been that successful and that truthful. But they should have added OutKast' album that was total BS. 50 should be on the list as well
