 Coming up under Lil Wayne isn't without its downsides. One thing that can really get to an artist is the expectations invisibly laid on their shoulders, especially if your Weezy's first lady.
Nicki Minaj has been given the title of The First Lady of Young Money Entertainment, Lil Wayne's label. That's a big title for a brand new artist.
While the female rapper, hailing from New York, is up for the challenge, she admitted recently, via an interview with Hot 93.7 radio show On-Air Idiots, that she's feeling the pressure.
"Do I feel pressure? Of course I do," Nicki said. "I'm a perfectionist and I want this buzz to really meet/surpass everyone's expectation of the people that support me. You got so many people that don't support you, but to the one's that do, they look at me and they see big things and I don't wanna disappoint them.
"To say I don't have pressure, I'd be lying. I do. I feel it all the time. I feel like I have to make this a masterpiece."
Still female rappers aren't easily accepted in the male-dominated world of hip-hop. Even when a female does it make, it's a tough road ... just ask Foxy Brown, Lil Kim and Remy Ma.
Nicki is aware that fact, so she knows she has a lot of work to put in before the male fans will look past her pretty looks and volumptous body, and pay attention to her music. Fortunately, the females are embracing her.
"I feel like the girls embrace me for being Nicki and all of the facets of my personality they love," the rapper explained. "Sometimes I do feel like the boys see me in a one-dimensional kind of way, but I feel like its gonnna come with time. I'm gonna prove myself just like I did with the 'BET Cypher', I'm gonna continue to do that so that I do get the respect from the boys one day."
While her major label solo debut is still in the works, you can hear her on four tracks of the upcoming Young Money Entertainment compilation, We Are Young Money, set to drop on December 21.
In addition to Nicki, the album features the rest of the label's roster, including Guddda Gudda, Drake, Tyga, Jae Millz, Mack Maine, Shanell, Lil Chuckee, and Lil Twist.
