Even though both films are in their third week, it was "The Blind Side" that sacked "New Moon" to nab the top slot at this week's box office.
The Sandra Bullock film $20.4 million this week, enough to knock the new "Twilight" film from its two-week run. It three weeks, its domestic total to $129.2 million.
"Blind Side" tells the story of Baltimore Ravens tackle Michael Oher, who is homeless and taken in by Sandra Bullock's wealthy family. They enroll him in private school and eventually makes it to the NFL.
"The movie has already done more than twice what we expected," Jeff Goldstein of Warner Bros. said of the film. "I don't think Sandra is America's sweetheart; she's the world's sweetheart."
"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" earned $15.7 million over the weekend, putting it at the #1 spot. To date, it's earned $255.6 million since its release.
In at #3 is "Brothers," the war drama starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman. It surprised many when it landed within the top 3, earning $9.7 million.
The Jim Carrey re-make of "A Christmas Carol" climbed one spot to #4 over the weekend, earning $7.5 million; while "Old Dogs" slipped to #5 with $6.9 million.
As for other wide releases, the heist film "Armored" managed to pull in $6.6 million to put it at #6; while Robert De Niro's "Everybody's Fine" rounds out the top 10 with $4 million.
Outside the top billing is George Clooney's "Up in the Air", earning a healthy $1.2 million in 15 theaters to it at #13. It expands to 20 cities on Friday.
That wraps things up this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the Matt Damon/Morgan Freeman drama "Invictus," and the expansion of "Up in the Air."
