At one time, boxer Roy Jones Jr. was considered the sport's pound for pound best, but his time has come and gone. Maybe it's time to hang up the gloves?

Jones and Bernard Hopkins were set to meet in March 2010 for a rematch of their 1993 bout where Jones won by unanimous decision. But, both fighters were supposed to win their respective fights on Wednesday (December 2).

While Hopkins won, Jones was TKO'd ... in the first round.

At the hands of Australian Danny Green, the 40-year-old boxer was stopped in the first round after the ref called the fight when Jones took a series of blows immediately after being floored by a right hand to the head.

This took place in just 122 seconds, in Green's native country of Australia.

"We don't make excuses, it was a great performance by Danny," Jones said after the fight.

Green, on the other hand, was happy to retain his IBO world cruiserweight title, but was almost apologetic for handing down such as devastating defeat o the former boxing great.

"He's one of the greatest fighters of all time and the opportunity to fight him in Australia, thanks, Roy Jones Jr.," Green told the crowd. "I almost feel bad doing that, that almost hurt me to do that to someone whom I aspire to look up to as a professional fighter inside and outside the ring. He's a bloody legend."

Back in the states ... Bernard Hopkins, who faced Mexican fighter Enrique Ornelas in Phildelphia, recorded another win at the age of 44. After a near 14-month layoff, he won by unanimous points decision.

Despite being wobbled in the fourth round following numerous right hands by Ornelas, Hopkins hook over the fifth by pinning him into the corner and digging at his body. As the fight wore on, Ornelas was visibly tiring.

"I'd like to give Ornelas a lot of credit, he didn't come to lay down," Hopkins said. "He hung in there, he took some great shots. I took some great shots. I think for 44 years old, my energy level was fantastic."

It's unclear if Hopkins will still face Jones in 2010, in light of the upsetting loss. However, Hopkins says he still wants it ... no matter what.
