The New Jersey Nets set an NBA record on Wednesday night (December 2), but not one any player wants to brag about ... the longest losing streak in the league's history.

The franchise recorded their 18th consecutive loss to start the season, the worst in NBA history, when they were pounded by the Dallas Maverick 117-110 on Wednesday on their home court.

"There aren't really any words I can use to describe it," Nets point guard Devin Harris said after the game. "You want to make history, but not in this way ... not in this way."

With the loss, they passed the 1988-89 Miami Heat and 1999 Clippers, each losers of their first 17 games.

They'll get a chance to snap their losing streak on Friday (December 4) when they play at home against the Charlotte Bobcats.

"At this point I feel like the streak is getting the best of us," swingman Chris Douglas-Roberts, who led all Nets scorers with 24 points, told NBA.com. "It's really starting to get to us now.

"So when a team goes on a run, it's almost like we give up, which is very unfortunate. That's what it looks like to me. We kind of give up and lay down instead of trying to fight," he continued.

The Nets were so bad ... and Dallas were just good. The Mavs shot 81% in the first half, the first NBA team to make 80% of its shots in a half since the Denver Nuggets hit 82% against the Clippers on April 4, 2006. Wow!
