Although she's been going through a bitter divorce with Nas and taking care of her first child, Kelis is ready to get back on the horse ... and into the studio.
The singer/songwriter announced this week that she's signed with the Black Eyed Peas' Will.i.am, and his Interscope-distributed label, Will.i.am Music Group, where she'll be releasing her next album.
"I love that I am now a new part of the Interscope family," Kelis said of the new deal. "2010 is around the corner and I can't wait to put out new music and spend time with real music fans on tour again."
"Kelis represents the kind of edge that pushes all of us not just musically, but stylistically as well," added Will.i.am. "She has always opened new doors for her audience and we're ready to walk through this next one with her."
Jimmy Iovine, Interscope Chairman, concurs: "Kelis is a true artist and we"re so excited to start this new chapter in her musical life."
To start things off, Kelis has just unleashed a brand new track, produced by David Guetta, called "Acapella." The track is currently available on her website, IAmKelis.com.
Her upcoming, as-yet-title album will feature production work big time producers such as Will.i.am, David Guetta (Black Eyed Peas), Free School, Boyz Noize, Burnz and DJ Ammo.
Kelis first exploded onto the global musical landscape in 1999 with her debut album, Kaleidoscope, which featured the ubiquitous MTV hit "Caught Out There." Since then, she's released five albums, garnering her a BRIT Award (for Best International Breakthrough Act in 2000) and two Grammy Award nominations.
Over the last ten years, Kelis has worked with music's biggest talent, including The Neptunes, Andre 3000, Bjork, Enrique Iglesias and Raphael Saadiq. However, she's best-known for her smash single, "Milkshake," and the platinum-selling ringtone "Bossy."
