2009-11-23-moviesFor the second weekend in a row, vampires won over moviegoers, as "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" beat out the release of "Ninja Assassin," and "Old Dogs."

"New Moon" remained at #1 over Thanksgiving weekend, earning another $42.5 million to put its two-week total at over $230 million domestically.

While the new "Twilight" film was able to stay on top, it was nearly blind-sided by the new inspirational story, starring Sandra Bullock, called "The Blind Side." The film earned $40.1 million over the weekend to put it at #2 for the second weekend in a row.

The film tells the story of Baltimore Ravens tackle Michael Oher. Sandra Bullock plays the role of a woman whose wealthy family takes in the homeless teen and enrolls him in private school.

The films' performances help record a new Thanksgiving weekend record of $275 million. The record was previously held by 2000's weekend, where "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Unbreakable" topped the box office.

Other new wide releases include the Disney family comedy, "Old Dogs," starring Robin Williams and John Travolta as single guys forced to mind 7-year-old twins one of them never knew he had fathered. It came in at #4 with $16.8 million for the three-day weekend and $24.1 million since opening Wednesday.

At #6 was the action tale "Ninja Assassin," opening with $13.1 million over the weekend, and $21 million since Wednesday. The movie features Korean pop star Rain and Naomie Harris in a thriller about a hit man on the run from his assassination clan.

"Fantastic Mr. Fox," the animated comedy with a voice cast led by George Clooney, expanded to nationwide release and pulled in $7 million to finish at #9.

Just outside the top 10 was the thriller/drama "The Road," starring Viggo Mortensen. It earned itself over $1.5 million to put it at #11.

That wraps things up this weekend. Next weekend, look out for new releases such as the Matt Dillon thriller "Armored," the Jake Gyllenhaal drama "Brothers," the Robert Deniro comedy "Everybody's Fine," and the horror comedy "Transylmania."

This weekend's top 10 is as follows:

1 - "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," $42.5 million.
2 - "The Blind Side," $40.1 million.
3 - "2012," $18 million.
4 - "Old Dogs," $16.8 million.
5 - "Disney's A Christmas Carol," $16 million.
6 - "Ninja Assassin," $13.1 million.
7 - "Planet 51," $10.2 million.
8 - "Precious: Based on the Novel `Push' By Sapphire," $7.1 million.
9 - "Fantastic Mr. Fox," $7 million.
