B.G. was in New York last week, and gave BallerStatus.com an advanced preview of his upcoming album, during a listening session at Chung King Studios.
BS.com staffer DJ Dubbz sat in for the sneak preview to his highly anticipated solo project, Too Hood 2B Hollywood, a very important to B.G. It is his newest release, while going through tumultuous legal problem -- last week, he was found in possession of multiple firearms as well as illegal prescription drugs.
The album itself had a tone that could actually be a script for his life. The content mirrors what we read in the headlines, and the eery details of his day-to-day situations shows us that he truly is a product of his environment. B.G. could only speak about what he is going through and his fast lifestyle.
The intro makes way for this 17-track journey. It's dark production sets a mood in the listener that let's you know what the album is about. He raps about his pill popping, weed smoking, husting, and gun toting ways with the laid back delivery he is best known for. Another cut off the album "N**** Owe Me Some Money" features the late, great Soulja Slim, Lil Boosie, C-Murder, and Young Buck. These rappers all have a few things in common ... tragedy, drug abuse, and run-ins with the law. Brooklyn's own Maino graced us with his presence and shouted out over the music "Damn most of them n****s is locked up" during the track's preview. This shows the listener how unfortunate some of these rappers' situations really end up being.
"Hit the Block and Roll" is another standout song off the album. The dreary synth and southern drum kit lay the foundation for a hustler's anthem. His tales of the dark underworld of Lousianna makes the listener feel as if he is riding with B.G. on his daily errands.
The radio single "My Hood", produced by former Cash Money beatsmith Manny Fresh, is B.G.'s upbeat neighborhood anthem that brings us through the streets of Lousianna. Manny Fresh's cheerful horns and energetic drums makes this a track to ride through your city with.
After a short break, Harlem, USA's own Jim Jones came to lend his support to B.G. and then melodic chords blared through the sound system. "Ya Heard Me" screams over the room and grabs everyone's attention. This is the coveted Hot Boys reunion that was so many years in the making. Wayne and Trey Songs deliver a syrup and weed laced hook, while B.G. and Juvenile glide over this smooth Cool & Dre produced effort. The matching of flows make it a great listen and will keep both old and new Cash Money fans wanting more.
The album also contains features from Young Jeezy, T.I., Magolia Chop, and MaTravious Cooks. These 17 tracks will keep B.G.'s hardcore fans fed for a while, and attract new ones. Go get it December 8th when it drops, and check out the trailer to his lead single "My Hood" featuring Manny Fresh below.
