Redman Embracing Auto-Tune? Nope, But His Alter-Ego Reggie Noble Is
Published 11/06/2009, by Ronnie Gamble

RedmanThere's been many debates on the overuse of auto-tune in hip-hop today, with many "real" hip-hop artists staying away from the trend. But, today, is one of the most unlikely vets in the genre's history about to embrace the effect?

That's what Redman is saying, or rather his alter-ego Reggie Noble.

The rapper is gearing up for the release of a new album, titled Reggie Noble 9 1/2, set for December. And, he tells Rap-Up.com Reggie is gonna use auto-tune, and he "don't give a f***."

"Reggie Noble don't give a f***! He wanna do auto-tune," Redman told the site. "He wants to do a pop record. He just wants to do music because he loves music.

"Reggie Noble is doing the album, not Redman. Let's get that clear," the rapper later explained.

Redman went on to explain that himself and Reggie Noble are much different. Reggie wants the pop hit and the auto-tune just for fun.

"What's the difference between Reggie Noble and Redman is that this Reggie Noble album is more conceptual," Redman explained. "It got concepts on it, it got auto-tune on it, it got a pop record on it. I had fun on it. I’m just throwing it out, giving it to Def Jam."

While Reggie is embracing the pop scene on this next album, dropping on Def Jam, Redman plans to return to his true form for his next album, which will be the sequel to his 1996 classic, Muddy Waters, due sometime next year.

It will be titled Muddy Waters II.

you know when kanye done the autotune concept thing i recoiled in horror but upon listening it wasn’t as bad as i thought, but Reggie doing it may be pretty fly i gotta say, i’m a big fan of Red so i’ll cop it anyway

Damn shame when Redman feels he has to jump on the gimmick bandwagon. This is what Jay was talking about, too many people letting this be the norm. It doesn’t take any talent to use auto-tune.

that whole “Reggie Noble” crap is a cop out. this nigga tryna play both sides of the fence. He tryna stay “hood” and pop by using his “alter-ego”. dude if you love the music you make stick behind it.

Retro - November 6, 2009 at 8:23 am

Guess what GEORGE Reggie Noble dont give a damn what Jay Z says just like all the other rappers should. This is Anti Jay Z you born in the 80’s?/ lyin to public in ya songs is you crazy?.

BoogerNose - November 6, 2009 at 11:36 am

This is just an excuse to SELLOUT and then blame it on your “alter-ego”! How can Reggie Noble be your alter-ego if it’s your REAL NAME!!! ASSHOLE!

Philly-O - November 6, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Red’s got the sense of humor to make auto-tune work. He’d probably make a joke out of it.

I really wanna cop Muddy Waters II when it comes out. Red’s always been dope as f*ck.

gaetarick - November 6, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Red is one of the tightest, under rated MCs out there . . . Let’s keep it real Hip Hop baby – FUCK auto-tunes!

Philly-O - November 6, 2009 at 5:45 pm

Y’all must forget that Redman used the whole “Reggie Noble” concept in songs before (he even did a track called “Redman vs. Reggie Noble” or somethin’ like that). It’s like he’s a split personality, lol.

Red’s already stated that this auto-tune deal is a one-time thing, and it’s not like he’s doing a whole album like Kanye or T-Pain, so give the man a break. He’s paid his dues.

AH SHIT MAN NOT REDMAN TOO!!! DAMN YOU T-PAIN…DAMN YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!!!

GEORGE - November 6, 2009 at 8:23 pm

@Retro, Redman has talent he doesn’t need that junk. And if he’s going to use it just be 100 and say I like the sound not this alter-ego cop-out. Don’t hate the top man, he can’t stand on the corner all day.

VENGEANCE IS MINE!!!!!!!!!! - November 7, 2009 at 12:44 am

MAN, F*CK JAY-Z!!!!

HE DON’T RUN RAP OR HIP HOP!!!!!

HE’S BEEN OVER-RATED FAR TOO LONG!!!!

HE AIN’T THE GREATEST, THAT’S JUZ THA MEDIA PUMPIN HIM UP!!!!

AND IF YA WANNA USE AUTO-TUNE????

THEN GO AHEAD, WHO CARES WUT JAY-Z THINKS!!!!!

PEOPLE FORGET THAT JAY-Z USED THAT “D.O.A.” FOR PUBLICITY AND THAT “SHOE-PRINT 3″ WAS AN ALBUM THAT ALSO HAD AUTO-TUNE ON IT!!!!

JAY-Z IS A FRAUD AND A HATER!!!!

...well alright - November 7, 2009 at 1:27 pm

…i agree with Vengeance.

hiphopjunkeee - November 7, 2009 at 1:36 pm

I’m kinda frowning on Red for this but he do have the personality to make it fun. I just hope people don’t take his Reggie Noble record too serious…Muddy Waters II is where the dope shit will be. And for real, Vengence is right – Jay drooped D.O.A. but still used Auto-tune in his record…not for a whole verse but for certain vocal effects. Either way he a hypocrite and a fraud.
