Affion Crockett has been a talent the world has only caught a glimpse of. While his days of "Wild N Out" with Nick Cannon have been on hiatus, he has only begun his takeover of the comedy world.
Ballerstatus.com spoke with Affion about his hilarious spoofs, his future, and what is real hip-hop!
Affion grew up as an Army brat on bases around the world, ranging from North Carolina to Germany. While he was living around the world, he had grown up and admired such comics as Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, and Jim Carey -- the "animated dudes" as he described.
Fast forward to his relentless TV appearances on shows such as "CSI: New York," "The District," numerous commercials, and the coveted sketch comedy institution, "Curb Your Enthusiasm." This star has shining for quite a while, it was only a matter of time, before another talent took notice.
Nick Cannon always kept an eye on Affion since his stand-up days on Def Comedy Jam. He then got him to audition for his now epic sketch comedy show, "Wild N Out," helping the young comedian's star shine brighter than ever before.
The all-star lineup and prime-time placement catapulted Affion into millions of TVs around the world and has kept his name bouncing around the entertainment industry since. Since then, he's been building his acting resume. His most recent appearance came in this year's comedy, "Dance Flick," alongside Damon Wayans Jr.
With his own show on the way, Affion has his work cut out for him. Although he could not disclose any details of his latest project, he did say this, "... it's too early to elaborate on, but what I can say is Dave Chappelle left a wide open lane for sketch comedy right now. That is what I do, and I'm going for that slot."
In the meantime we can all enjoy his hilarious antics and spoofs on his official YouTube page (Youtube.com/AffionCrockett). His latest spoofs have poked fun at Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons doing Yoga during an interview for the 2009 Hip Hop Honors ceremony, and the popular "Hunt Chris Brown" music video spoof of Jay's "Run This Town" visual, where Crockett imitates Jay, Kanye West, and a bow-tie wearing Chris Brown.

More spoofs are coming too, Affion says. There is no shortage of material in his think tank. "I just sit around sometimes and if I think it's funny I start creating the idea," he says.
Even with his edgier material, there has been nothing but love from his spoof victims. "Chris Brown put it on his Twitter page the next day, called me and said that it was hilarious. They know that I don't try to disrespect them in these spoofs, so he got it."
Affion's musical writing abilities can be attributed to his stellar choice in what he affirms is "real hip-hop". His personal favorites include artists such as Big Pun, Talib Kweli, Rakim, and EPMD to name a few. His preference for New York hip-hop can be attributed to a large portion of his family still living there. So, of course, he's gotta rep the hometown when it comes to the 2009 World Series.
"I gotta rep for the New York Yankees".
While the pages in his resume keep multiplying, you can follow him along his journey on Twitter (@AffionCrockett) and catch some of the funniest 140 characters you will ever read.
