Coming off of two losses, Winky Wright is ready to get "Back to Business" in a fight against Grady "Bad Boy" Brewer on December 11 in Puerto Rico, where it will take place ... at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan.
Wright, who's longstanding friendship with Puerto Rican legend Felix "Tito" Trinidad, who he got to know well after their May 2005 fight, thought the island was a perfect place for his return to the ring.
"Puerto Rico is great place to have this fight, as it is deep in boxing history and tradition with the Puerto Rican people embracing the sport like very few places around the world," said Wright. "Tito and I have become great friends and each time I come to visit, I have been ingratiated by the fans whom love and appreciate boxing so much. It will be an honor for me to fight in front of them on December 11."
"I appreciate the opportunity to fight Winky Wright in a place where boxing has been followed and understood for so long," added Brewer. "The fans might not know me like they know Winky, but they will know me a lot better after I beat him that night."
It will be Winky's first time back in the ring since his loss to Paul Williams at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada this past April. Before that, he suffered a disappointing defeat against Bernard Hopkins in 2007.
Since the two losses, he's been unable to land any noteworthy opponents. Hopefully, a win against Brewer can lead to other fights for the 37-year-old unique fighter.
His opponent, Grady Brewer, has held two Light Middleweight titles, and was the 2006 winner of "The Contender" reality show. However, he holds a so-so professional record of 26-11. But, Brewer has been on a winning streak as of late. He's won his last eight, his most recent being a dominating performance over Albert Omolunese in August.
The December fight should be a fairly entertaining, but Winky will have the advantage, due to his superior skills and defensive. We'll wait to see where things go after, if he can put on the performance most expect him to.
The boxing event will also mark the return of esteemed Puerto Rican champion, Alex "el Nene" Sanchez. El Nene held the WBO light flyweight Champion title in 2004, and is looking forward to a return to the ring.
"Boxing is my life and I feel confident that I can get back to the top of my game with a win December 11," said Sanchez "To fight one more time for my people on the same card as the great champion Winky Wright and to do it at the Coilseo is a blessing I will never forget."
In addition to island favorite Sanchez, the undercard will also features Felix "Tito" Trinidad's undefeated welterweight protégé Eliezer Gonzalez (6-0/3 Kos) and Golden Boy's Puerto Rican combatant twins Juan Carlos Velasquez (9-1/5 KOs) and Carlos Ivan Velasquez (11-0-1/9 KOs).
