Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield Reunite on ‘Oprah’, Speak For First Time Since Ear Bite
Published 10/17/2009 · By Randall Stevens

2009-10-17 - Tyson on OprahDespite biting his ear off over a decade ago, Mike Tyson reunited with Evander Holyfield on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Friday (October 16).

He shook hands with his former rival several times during their meeting, which he said was the first time they spoke in length since the infamous ear bite.

On June 28, 1997, Tyson was disqualified after biting off part of Holyfield's right ear during their WBA heavyweight title fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

During Tyson's first appearance earlier in the week, he said that the initial apology following the incident was insincere. When he saw Holyfield this time, he didn't apologize. Instead, he praised him.

"This is a beautiful guy," he said, holding Holyfield's arm affectionately for several seconds. "I just want you to know it's just been a pleasure ... being acquainted with you."

Asked by Winfrey if he was still missing part of his ear, Holyfield pointed to it and said, "Just a little bit."

Holyfield poked fun of the ear biting incident. Oprah asked if he was still missing part of his ear, and he pointed to it and said, "Just a little bit."

He went on to confess that as a child, he did his fair share of biting roughhousing with his siblings as a way to get out of headlocks.

"You talk about biting," Holyfield said. "I'm the person that bit every brother in my family."

Also during the second stop on Oprah's show, Tyson spoke about the reaction he's received from the interview, show's viewers reactions, and he answered questions.

mind you, when I said the above, this was the same man that almost ran me over in his red drop top in the late 80’s early 90’s because he was speeding around carelessly and my Uncle helped build his Pigeon coop in the Catskills, so I’ve been around his world….I’m proud of him and his growth….Oh, and Kudos to Oprah for bringing these 2 men together….the Jay z show was monumental as well
