2009-09-22 - BuketInfamous Los Angeles graffiti artist Buket was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for vandalism, after posting footage of himself bombing the Hollywood Freeway in broad daylight.

The footage became one of the most viewed videos on YouTube, and helped Buket up his street fame, but it also drew of the attention of police.

The 26-year-old tagger (real name: Cyrus Yazdani) was popped back in May, and authorities were able to link him to hundreds of graffiti defacements on everything from freeway overpasses and concrete walls to transit buses and other surfaces throughout California and southern Nevada.

L.A. Country Sheriff's deputies said they found at least 20 Buket tags, along a stretch of the river spanning a couple of miles, estimated at around $60,000 in damage.

To make matters worse, he was already on probation after pleading guilty to 32 felony vandalism counts in December 2008.

Earlier this month, a judge sentenced Yazdani to three years and eight months in state prison.

In July, he pleaded no contest to one count of felony vandalism and accepted financial responsibility for five vandalism incidents. Four of the counts were dismissed this month, but Yazdani must pay $117,196 in restitution.

To date, he's only paid $400, and even recently caused another $14,000 in damage before his arrest.

In the infamous YouTube clip, posted in September 2007, Buket is seen climbing onto the 101 Hollywood Freeway overpass and getting his name up in the middle of the day.

The video in question is below. To date, it has nearly 600,000 views.

20 tags is $60,000 worth of damage????? Gimme a break.
And 4 years in prison for writing his name on walls?
That’s ridiculous. No wonder the ‘free’ US has more of its citizens in jail than Red China both in number and percentage of the population (and more than Stalin did in the old Soviet Union). Insane.

Wouldn’t it be more appropriate and of less cost to tax payers if he were to do labor removing what he has been putting up. I’m pretty certain a few cans of paint etc would be cheaper than 4 years of food and cell space.
