Cypress Hill To Perform Entire Black Sunday Album At Upcoming Smokeout Festival
Published 09/13/2009, by Ronnie Gamble

Cypress HillAs they gear up for the return of their two-day Smokeout Festival in Southern California in October, Cypress Hill announces what their set will consist of -- a performance of their breakthrough album, Black Sunday.

During the two-day music festival and marijuana expo, the popular group will perform, in its entirety, the 1993 platinum-plus album, as well as material from their upcoming new album, Rise Up.

When it dropped in 1993, Black Sunday immediately launched Cypress Hill into mainstream success, debuting at no. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 charts -- which marked the highest Soundscan placing for a rap group at the time -- and solidifying them as the first Latino hip-hop group to go platinum.

Considered a classic in the hip-hop world, the multi-platinum project houses many of the group's anthemic singles, including "Insane in the Brain," "Hits from the Bong" and "I Wanna Get High."

Rolling Stone remarked on 9/16/93 "...it's the Cypress combo of stark grooves and cinematic gangsta fairy tales that allows them to rule the streets, a formula not messed with on Black Sunday..."

It's all going down on October 23rd and 24th in San Bernardino, California. A two-day, multi-stage, multi-genre, all day, mind opening music festival and cannabis expo will also feature the SmokeOut Cannabis Cup and Medical Marijuana Expo, complete with celebrity guest speakers, artist appearances and an educational and interactive vendor village.

Tickets are on sale now.

The day by day line-up for the Cypress Hill Smokeout is:

Friday, October 23: Cypress Hill, Goodie Mob (Reunion), Geto Boys (Reunion), Hieroglyphics with Del, Devin the Dude, Swollen Members w/ Moka Only, B-Real, Shortdawg Tha Native
