Harlem rapper, Max B, was sentenced to 75 years in prison on Thursday (September 3), for putting together a robbery four years ago that left one man dead, reports NorthJersey.com.
The rapper (real name: Charly Wingate) was convicted in June, of felony murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery, among other charges, following testimony from several witnesses including his ex-girlfriend, Gina Conway.
His stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, was also convicted of the same charges. He was allegedly the trigger man.
According to Max's mother, Sharon, the rapper plans to appeal the decision.
"We will be back," she told the site.
During the trial, witnesses testified that the murder victim, David Taylor, and his friend, Allan Plowden, were seen in Harlem a few days before the robbery, driving expensive cars and showing off a lot of cash.
This is when Conway told Max B about the two men, who then formulated a plan to rob them.
Max is said to have recruited Leerdam for the job, sticking up to the men in Plowden's Holiday Inn hotel room in New Jersey back in late 2006. During the robbery, Taylor was shot in the head, leading to the arrests of Conway, Leerdam and Max B.
Conway took a plea deal and agreed to testify against Max B and Leerdam. In exchange, she would dodge a life sentence and instead, get 18 years for armed robbery and manslaughter.
Prior to the trial, Max B had signed a deal with Amalgam Digital, where he planned to release his debut album, Vigilante Season. Before Amalgam, he was a member of Jim Jones' Byrd Gang Records, before the relationship turned sour.
