 DJ AM was found dead in New York City Friday afternoon (August 28), said reports.
While details are still sketchy, police said that the body of the popular celebrity DJ was found on the seventh floor of an apartment building in Soho.
He was just 36 years old.
TMZ reports:
Law enforcement sources tell us he was found in his apartment at around 5:20 PM. Sources tell TMZ prescription pill bottles were found near DJ AM's body this afternoon.
We're told his body was found at around 5 PM at his apartment in New York City -- he was shirtless and wearing sweatpants. He was face down.
UPDATE 8:35 PM ET: A law enforcement source on scene tells TMZ a glass "crack pipe" was found in his bedroom. The pill bottles were found in the kitchen.
UPDATE 8:10 PM ET: Sources say a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs was also found inside the bedroom.
UPDATE 7:51 PM ET: We're told his body has not been removed from the apartment.
AM's last Twitter update was on Tuesday afternoon (August 25), where he tweeted from New York: "New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems."
The news comes less than a year after he and friend Travis Barker escaped death in a plane crash in South Carolina, caused when the private plane's takeoff was aborted right before lift off. Four people died in the crash, including two pilots, and Travis' friends, Chris Baker and Charles Still.
