A film, comprised of rehearsal footage of Michael Jackson's planned comeback concerts, is scheduled for a two-week limited run in theaters, beginning in October, just four months after his death.
The film, titled "This Is It," will be directed by choreographer Kenny Ortega, who worked with Michael throughout his career.
"This film is Michael's gift to his fans," Ortega said in a statement. "As we began assembling the footage for the motion picture, we realized we captured something extraordinary, unique and very special. It's a very private, exclusive look into a creative genius's world.
"Fans will see Michael as they have never seen him before -- this great artist at work," he continuted, calling the footage "raw, emotional, moving and powerful."
The footage is said to be over 100 hours in length, and was taken from April to June of this year. It includes behind the scenes and final rehearsals footage, said Sony Pictures.
The studio said they've release date was moved up from its initial slot by two days to October 28, and tickets will go on sale in most cities beginning September 27.
Sony reportedly paid $60 million for rights to the film.
Jackson died of cardiac arrest on June 25. He was just 50 years old. He was only weeks away from starting a string of concerts in London, dubbed "This Is It," and would have been his last.
